Fitness - Adding 10

Fitness week 2.  My husband was kind enough to text this motivational gem to me today.

Last week I made it through 3 sessions of toning exercises!  I also got 3 cardio sessions in leaving my feeling that it was a successful fitness week.  Will my scale agree?  Now I'm adding 10 minutes and a second Pinterest find to my toning routine from last week.  This will bring my home exercise session to 20 minutes if done back to back.  This one requires a set of hand weights and optional exercise ball. I'm not going to use the ball this week because I think the routine will be challenging enough without it!

A Little Blue

Outfit post.  I need a new word for "accessorize".  Anyone else tired of "pop"?  Everyone and their mother says "pop of color".  In the vast english vocabulary, surely there is an alternative.  So here I am wearing black and white stripes with blue.  Blue scarf, blue stones, blue toenail polish.

And lest anyone think I'm just living my life getting dressed everyday and worrying about alternative synonyms for "pop"  here's a glimpse into my real life. Real as it gets.

Monday - Fitness via Pinterest

Monday and I'm reinspired to be fit.  I've been collecting pins on my
Pinterest boards in hopes of being inspired by the beautiful bodies (and not so much by the beautiful cupcakes).  Today i'm creating my own challenge.  I will pick one pin from my board to try for a week.  I will add cardio to my daily routine in some form even if I have to jog around my own house (i have stairs too!)  I will note any improvement on blog as my witness.

starting today with this pin from self magazine.  claims that these 7 moves will tighten me up everywhere and help lose 2 lbs a week.  here we go....

DO THESE MOVES THREE TIMES A WEEK ON ALTERNATE DAYS, AND BE READY: THEY'RE HARD. BUT YOUR BODY WILL BE, TOO.
YOU'LL NEED: YUP, JUST A PLAIN OLD WALL. DON'T WANT SCUFF MARKS? LOSE THE SNEAKS. THERE—ONE LESS THING TO WORRY ABOUT.
YOUR PLAN: DO THESE SEVEN MOVES THREE TIMES A WEEK ON ALTERNATE DAYS AND YOU'LL REALIZE THAT SOMETIMES ITCAN
BE A GOOD THING WHEN YOUR WORKOUT HITS THE WALL. HA, HA

Thursday...Jcrew inspired

From this pic-spiration on Jcrew website, I added my orange Banana Republic scarf tied into a hobo sack from this Pinterest pin. I was dubious as to the real life application but to my surprise, I carried the scarf around all day as my purse!

Monday Party

My first Monday party on the blog.  Thanks to Kayla at fashionsgreatesthits for inviting me over.  I DO love a party. Perfect Spring weather was here this weekend.  Sunny, mid-70s, breezy. Even with the sneezing and itchy eyes, it was just amazing.  I ventured out for some outdoor shopping and dining, a lovely respite from the busy weekend just past.  Refreshed and rested, starting the day with a blog party, looks like a good week ahead! Hope you are enjoying Spring too.

XXI Jean jacket, Francesca's Necklace and top, Sanctuary jeans, Kate Spade purse (past season),
Tahari sandals via DSW )
I enjoy browsing at Francesca's. They have great gift items, jewelry and often a score with clothing.  These are not pieces you'll wear after a season or two, but can give a lift on a down day without breaking into the nest egg.  I found this tank (available online in mint, similar coral one here ) and necklace on such a day!

Spring Brunch

Excuse the poor photo quality.  The last two weeks have been a blur.  Ha!  This meal was so good it was worth sharing.  Its definitely an adaptable menu from casual to a more formal changing out the sliders for a pork entree and adding rolls and a side salad.  The pork was perfect - thanks Paula Deen!
Paula Deen's Fig Pork Tenderloin Sliders adapted with blue cheese butter; Bacon Wrapped Asparagus;Deviled Eggs

Pork Tenderloin
Servings: 6Prep Time: 5 minCook Time: 30 min Difficulty: Easy
Ingredients
1 1 pound Pork Tenderloin
(I created my own version *below)
1/4 cup butter, room temperature
1/4 cup blue cheese
1/2 cup fig jam, (can sub any of your favorite jam)
Slider Rolls

Directions

Brush Tenderloin with Paula Deen Collection Fig Balsamic Grilling Sauce and roast in a 350º oven for 28-30 minutes or internal temperature reaches 160º F, or place on the grill for 8 minutes per side. Brush again with Fig Balsamic Grilling Sauce and allow to rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
In a small mixing bowl, stir together blue cheese and butter.
To assemble:  Slice tenderloin into 1/4” slices. Spread the bottom of a slider bun or roll with the blue cheese butter, top with two slices of tenderloin and finish with a dollop of fig jam. Place top of bun on the slider and secure with a decorative pick.
PreHeat - 350°

Roasted Asparagus with Bacon
1 lb fresh asparagus
8 -10 slices bacon
Directions:
Wash and trim asparagus spears.
Cut bacon strips in half crosswise.
Wrap one-half strip bacon around each asparagus spear, leaving tip and end exposed.
Lay on a cookie sheet with sides.
Bake in a preheated 400 degree Fahrenheit oven for 20 to 25 minutes, or until bacon is cooked.
Serve warm or at room temperature.
**Note: You may want to cook the bacon in the oven for 10 minutes first, to avoid over cooking asparagus.

Dad's Deviled Eggs
6 eggs hard boiled
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1 teaspoon white vinegar
1 teaspoon yellow mustard
1/8 teaspoon salt
Freshly ground black pepper
Peel the eggs and slice in half lengthwise, remove yolks, place in bowl, and place the whites on a serving plate. Mash the yolks into a fine crumble using a fork. Add mayonnaise, vinegar, mustard, salt, and pepper, and mix well. Spoon yolk mixture into egg white halves.  Chill until ready to serve.

I used 1/4 cup basalmic vinegar, a 1/4 cup Wegman's basting oil with garlic and herbs, and 1/4 cup Braswells Fig Preserves.  Whisk together and brush over pork.  I made an additional batch to pour over the pork after it cooked.

Easy Spring Centerpiece - the lemons seem to keep the flowers fresh longer too!
